Alumicraft Race Cars Perform At 2026 SCORE San Felipe 250 With Class 10 Sweep

March 31, 2026San Felipe, Baja California Mexico

Alumicraft Race Cars opened the 2026 SCORE World Desert Championship with a complete podium sweep in Class 10 at the SCORE San Felipe 250. The result reinforces the consistency and durability of its race-proven platform across one of Baja’s most demanding sprint races.

In a field of nine Class 10 starters, five competitors reached the finish. All three podium finishers piloted Alumicraft race cars. Stan Potter of El Cajon, California, secured the Class 10 victory in his No. 1000 Alumicraft with a total elapsed time of 5 hours, 44 minutes, and 9.140 seconds. The win marks Potter’s first San Felipe 250 victory after finishing second in 2024 and follows his 2025 Class 10 championship season, which included a win at the Baja 1000.

Cesar Cuevas, driving the No. 1011 Alumicraft, finished second, while Matt Willert in the No. 1009 Alumicraft completed the podium in third. The result placed Alumicraft race cars in all top three finishing positions in Class 10 at the season opener.

A DEMANDING BAJA SPIRIT

The San Felipe 250 is widely regarded as one of the fastest and most physically demanding races in the SCORE World Desert Championship schedule. The 2026 race featured a 281.5-mile course that started and finished along the San Felipe Malecon. Competitors were routed south out of town through a rare clockwise loop across Baja California’s eastern terrain.

The course combined high-speed sections near Federal Highway 5 with technical segments through Matomi Wash, Amarillas Wash, and Chanate Wash. Competitors also navigated Diablo Dry Lake and multiple high-speed dune sections near the closing miles, thrilling fans with an exciting finish. The fastest racers pushed themselves and their machines to make a defining difference.

San Felipe’s deep silt beds, sharp rock sections, and continuous suspension cycling tested chassis integrity and component durability allowing Alumicraft racers to shine.

With only one physical checkpoint located near Ejido Morelia at mile 187.48 and more than 200 virtual checkpoints throughout the course, teams were required to maintain both pace and precision. Seven speed-limited zones were enforced, adding another layer of race management to an already complex layout. There was a reduced pre-running window of one week placing an additional emphasis on preparation, note-taking, and vehicle setup prior to race day.

RACE EXECUTION & VEHICLE CONSISTENCY

Potter’s winning run reflected a controlled approach across the full race distance. Maintaining a consistent pace while avoiding major mechanical issues or penalties proved decisive in a race where attrition reduced the field by nearly half.

Potter stated, “We ran a conservative pace for most of the race and chose our opportunities to gain time. Our Alumicraft single-seater setup with King Shocks performed exceptionally well over 99.9% of the famous San Felipe bumps. We had no flats and only pitted twice for fuel. Aside from minor electronic issues (GPS and Stella Push-to-Pass), we had a fairly trouble-free race. Our biggest challenge was getting past the UTVs. We’re looking forward to the 500 and will have our Alumicraft ready.”

Cuevas and Willert followed closely, each delivering clean runs that emphasized reliability over risk. The ability for three Alumicraft entries to complete the race and secure the podium positions highlights the platform’s ability to manage both high-speed desert sections and slower technical terrain without compromise.

Across the finishing Class 10 field, Alumicraft accounted for every podium position and a majority of finishers, reinforcing its presence within the class.

SEASON MOMENTUM & CHAMPIONSHIP OUTLOOK

The San Felipe 250 serves as the opening round of the four-race SCORE championship, setting the tone for the remainder of the season. Early results often influence team strategy heading into longer endurance races such as the Baja 500 and Baja 1000.

For Potter, the win represents a continuation of momentum following his 2025 championship campaign. Starting the season with a victory in San Felipe positions his team well in the early points standings while reinforcing familiarity with the Alumicraft platform under race conditions.
