Alumicraft Racer Conner McMullen Overalls LEGACY Frontier 500 🏆

April 25, 2024Fallon, NV

Just days after winning the SNORE Battle At Primm overall, Conner McMullen took his Alumicraft Class 1 home for a wash down and an oil change to prepare for the next event. That little bit of work was all it took! McMullen won the Legacy Racing Association K&N Frontier 500 to make it back-to-back overall wins.

Before overalling the Frontier 500 and BAP, Conner piloted his Alumicraft Racecar to an overall win at the Legacy Parker Dam 500 in February. McMullen is off to a great start, leading the Legacy points championship by a good margin. Here is how the latest race went down.

With the K&N Legacy Frontier 500 being the second event of the 2024 season, event organizers designated a point-to-point route through the high desert plains of the Nevada desert. Legacy aimed to mimic and pay homage to the old Frontier 500 race in the 1980s. This 2024 event started in the small mining town of Johnnie, Nevada, approximately 15 miles north of Pahrump. The Frontier 500 was initially planned to finish in Yerington, but organizers cut it short at the last minute due to fowl weather conditions moving into the area. The finish line was moved to Fallon utilizing the Top Gun pit site.

Conner McMullen got things going in a groove by qualifying 2nd on the pole during Wednesday's Time Trials event. The track was 2.70 miles long, and McMullen ripped through it in 3 minutes and 47.574 seconds, placing 2nd quickest behind the Unlimited Class all-wheel-drive truck of Eric Hustead.

Two days later, on Friday, racers would get the green flag to embark on a 470-mile journey. McMullen would trail Hustead's rear bumper through the first four pit stop locations. A narrow two-track course, dusty conditions, and limited passing options kept McMullen at bay. Before they came to Pit 5, Conner moved his #1540 Alumicraft into the lead as Hustead pulled over for a flat tire.

From then on, McMullen had clean air, picked up his speed, and gapped all the other racers behind him. Conner would finish the course as the physical leader and earned the quickest time with 7 hours, 6 minutes, and 5.316 seconds to cover the 470 miles. McMullen put over sixteen minutes on Hustead's Unlimited Truck before he made it to the race's end.

Conner made these remarks on the weekend. "Back-to-back race weekends with back-to-back overall wins! Thank you to everyone who helps make this possible! We have been doing this for a long time and have enjoyed many successes with Alumicraft. Qualifying went well. We qualified second overall with the all-wheel-drive truck a few seconds before us to give us a great starting position. We started the race with a conservative pace to stay with Eric Hustead all the way down. We caught his dust before Pit 1, and we're just pacing him, trying to stay out of the dust. At Pit 4, we had our first fuel stop. We put on two new rear tires and dumped 55 gallons of fuel. Just before Pit 5, we caught and passed Hustead as he was pulled over with the flat. We had clear sailing to Pit 6."

McMullen continued, "We put in a 10-gallon splash of fuel because we were concerned about our fuel mileage. Pit 8 was our next fuel and tire stop, and we came in with a flat right rear. Our guys changed the rear tires and put another 50 gallons of fuel in to make it to the finish line. We continued conservatively, knowing we had a decent lead, and made it to the finish. Right before the finish, we had another tire going flat. We just drove it in and the Legacy owner changed it for us. Talk about service!"

For Conner McMullen and his team to earn consistent class wins and overall victories is a testament to their program and the equipment they are running. Alumicraft appreciates their tremendous effort and congratulates them on another dominating performance, using Alumicraft Race Cars to help make Class 1 great again.
