Alumicraft Racers Take Top 6 In Class 10 At The 2024 SCORE San Felipe 250
The 37th San Felipe 250 was a big one for SCORE-International as far as the season opener goes. 276 entries registered, the 4th highest for the event, but only 195 would make it across the finish. Six racers were in Alumicraft Class 10 buggies to sweep the division's Top 5. Bruce Yee in the #1014 took the victory. Cody Reid also secured a 2nd place podium in an Alumicraft Class 1.
Fourteen Class 10 buggies started the race, with only nine finishing the 285.69-mile course. SCORE plotted the route with 133 virtual checkpoints traversing magnificent Baja terrain. The course embarked on a northward trajectory, leading to the Zoo Road crossing and extending further north to the El Chinero area. From there, it traversed through Laguna Saldana, followed by the Arroyo Grande, and continued through the Arroyo Arrajal. Heading southward, the route passed through Borrego and Laguna Diablo before reaching Morelia Junction. Finally, it veered eastward, navigating through the gloriously infamous Chanate Wash, before making the last northward push towards the finish line, grazing the coast of the aquamarine Sea of Cortez.
The Class 1 ranks saw only nine competitors enter this year's Baja 500. There were four finishers in the division and five that did not finish. Reid's RPI Racing Unlimited Buggy was the only Alumicraft car in the field. Cody Reid's total time on the course was 10 hours, 17 minutes, and 2 seconds for an average speed of 46.06 mph.
Once again, the beautiful San Felipe desert treated racers with a high-speed and jarring spectacle of the wild springtime scenery. As they blazed through, fans and spectators lined the route to cheer on their racers.
They did not have to wait long as Bruce Yee broke away from the pack in his Honda-powered Alumicraft race car. Yee finished the entire course in 5 hours, 24 minutes, and 23 seconds for an average speed of 52.83 miles per hour. The Yee family earned another victory, with Eli Yee winning Class 5.
