Ensenada, Baja California
The SCORE International Baja 400 is the youngest event on the schedule, but it is quickly becoming a racer's favorite. It has all of the best traits of a Baja 500 but in a slimmer and faster version. An unprecedented record may have occurred in the highly competitive Class 10 division. Alumicraft racecars were the manufacturer of choice for the race winner, the podium, and an entire sweep of all top 10 finishers within the class.

Jose David Ruvalcaba, Driver Of Record for the #1009 Alumicraft, won the race with a finishing time of 9 hours, 1 minute, and 59 seconds for an average speed of 43.60 miles per hour. 2nd place finisher Stan Potter in the #1006 Alumicraft crossed the checkers in 9 hours, 6 minutes, and 53 seconds. Coming in 3rd was Ivan Tagle in the #1087 Alumicraft.
At 393.82 miles, the single loop started and finished in Ensenada. A seasonal hurricane caused massive flooding throughout Baja and the northern region did not escape. The wet stormy weather caused unforeseen variables that tested race officials, the racecourse, and the racers themselves. As for the race vehicles, well, Alumicraft racecars seemed to be unphased!
Of the 197 total competitors, 136 official entries completed the event for a surprising 69 percent finishing rate.

Jose David Ruvalcaba started and drove to race mile 223. His co-driver Esteban Cruz drove race mile 223 to the end. Esteban said at the finish line "The day went really, really well. We had a rear start in our class, but David had an excellent pace. He handed me the car in first place on time. He did his homework and I knew I had to do mine too. I just tried to be consistent and not make any mistakes. We knew that as long as we did that, we had it in the bag because the time was on our side. SCORE has put on an excellent course again. They've been doing a great job putting on diverse courses over the last few years. That's fun for us racers."

Podium finish Stan Potter drove solo and made these comments during the finish line interview. "The course was brutal but fun. They put out some new stuff that we have never done before. You couldn't take your focus off of some excellent stuff for a second."

Former Class 10 champion Ivan Tagle also drove solo and shared his race experience at the conclusion. "It was a tough course. There was a lot of mud. The car didn't have any problems at all. We were fighting for first place, but we got hit by Trophy Truck Specs twice, which cost us a lot of time. "

Going into the Baja 400, Alumicraft Racer Ivan Tagle was leading the division in points. Ruvalcaba was ranked 4th, having and chasing Tagle by a 9-point spread. After Jose David's Baja 400 win and Tagle's 3rd place podium, these two and a few others like Bruce Yee will have to duke it out at the Baja 1000. Whoever of these three claims victory or the top finish will likely win the 2022 Class 10 points championship.

Off-road racing is full of variables that test the driver and equipment. When every car that finishes the race shares the same manufacturer, there has to be something special behind that record. Alumicraft has owned records like that for many years. It may be the choice of drivers at this year's Baja 400, but Alumicraft is always the choice of winners and champions.
